Its taken time to get on top of things, but the time has arrived to recreate a central area to promote sidecar racing within Australia.
Yes there are sites all over the web promoting outfits, but Sidecars Australia exists to help grow the fields in any sidecar discipline in Australian motorcycle racing circles.
The online forum at www.sidecarsaust.info/forum has topics about promotion that are current and require input from you. The gallery at www.sidecarsaust.info/gallery will contain images from different eras and disciplines so new comers get see the variations.
There is a plan to help build the Vic. Modern Titles at Phillip Island on Nov 16 /17 2088 to get an immeadiate increase in activity. It involves getting the 1981 to 2000 machines on the tracks to fill grids behind any moderns that come along. Fields of 3 and 4 are not going to get support from promoters nor encourage anybody to come over the fence and race against us. The market place has an advert for a nice oldie.
The Historic sidecar section has experinced fantastic growth over the last 3 years, this was the result of a promotion program that used the enthusiasm of people involved to build numbers to such an extent we may need a split field or even heats at the Island Classic in 2009.
Who would have believed that was possible in 2005 when we we left out of the program when we had 4 outfits entered.
Enough of the teary eyes, time to move on. The Forum will be set up to aid communication, the web site itself will accumulate resources to draw upon to boost sidecars everywhere. As time and ideas come to mind, along with some more volunteers we shall put up more data and stories such that you will be crawling to a track to get a ride. We plan to try and assist every discipline that has sidecars and encourage sidecars at new venues such as Supermotard where I was once advised, get 12 sidecars and they can race. It seems short circuit outfits may be best for Supermotard so it may not be that long.
